Hello! My name is Neil Burtenshaw, born and bred in Sussex.
My travel career started in 1993 as a Steward with P&O European Ferries, so I guess I've come full circle!
After a couple of seasons with P&O, I worked in Spain as a Holiday Representative, firstly in the North on the Costa Verde, where only myself and my guests were English speakers, needless to say my Spanish improved very quickly! I then moved over to the Costa Daurada and lastly the Island of Mallorca.
Having lived out of a suitcase for a few years, a travel company in Worthing saw something in me and took me on, initially as a Flight Sales Consolidator and then trained me to become a full-on Travel Consultant and that’s what I’ve been doing for over 20 years. Working for multinationals such as The Centurion Card @ American Express, Cruise Thomas Cook and for the last seven years, a very well-known online cruise and holiday travel agency.
Being lucky enough to work in this wonderful industry has enabled me to visit over sixty countries, meet lots of great people and make lots of friends.
Becoming GoCruise & Travel’s East Sussex Franchisee, enables me to combine my in-depth knowledge and experience from both the land and cruise travel worlds and in turn, provide ‘you’ with a seamless, local and personal travel service.
My favourite holiday location and cruise line...
I believe in the saying 'to travel is to live' so whether it be the Costa del Sol, Thailand or cruising the Caribbean, I very quickly immerse myself in the local food and culture and never want to go home!
I'm very much itinerary driven, so my favourite holiday or cruise-line is whatever is high on my bucket-list at the time. However, if pushed, I’d have to say Australia, Bermuda, Canada, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, South Africa, Spain & Thailand are some of the highlights of my travels over the years. I want to see the whole World!
I've actually cruised with Fred Olsen Cruises, P&O Cruises, Marella Cruises, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Azamara Club Cruises and AmaWaterways. However due to constant ship visits and all the intensive training over the years, I feel like I've cruised with them all.
Next on my wish list is...
Very high on the already mentioned bucket-list are Japan/Korea, South America and the USA. Not necessarily in that order!
